Welcome to Lake in the Hills, Illinois:
Lake in the Hills was a small residential farming community. A few original farms still stand today as a reminder of our past. The history of Lake in the Hills began when Federal Judge Walter J. La Buy started purchasing property in the 1920’s around what is know as Woods Creek Lake, to build his estate. He also built homes for his children, it is said that by 1926 he had acquired over 470 acres. The Village now owns the property between 292 and 290 Indian Trail, which was delegated as the children's beach.
